Congratulations to South Men's Hockey Club on making the Grand Final in 3 out of the top 4 grades this year. Something that hasn't been achieved by this club for some time.
The Grand Finals will be this Saturday as follows:
1st Grade vs Norths from 3:30pm
2nd Grade vs Norths from 2:00pm
3rd Grade vs Crusaders from 12:30pm
It would be great to see as many supporters on the hill as possible this Saturday. Please wear your club dress shirts. If you don't have a white dress shirt, then wear anything white or red.
All the best to those involved.
On Saturday Night the club will be celebrating one way or another at the Sunnyside Tavern. This is a great chance to have a drink with your fellow clubmen and support our major sponsor. Seeyou there from 6:30pm. Partners/family/friends/life members/supporters are all welcome. It promises to be a great night.

1st Grade had a positive result considering the number of regular players unavailable for their Round 4 clash against West. The team went into the break with a 1-0 lead after Kyle Bosworth scored midway through the first half. It was a disappointing first half considering the possession and number of shots the team had. In the first 15 minutes after half time the game was in the balance. A turnover and poor defence resulted in West equalising with 20 minutes to go. At this point Wade Sharrock fell awkwardly and injured his hip and it looked as though the team may play out the last 20 minutes without a keeper. Wade soldiered on for the rest of the game making several saves despite the injury causing his obvious pain.
The goal from West sparked South into action. The team finally put it all together with a flurry of goals in the next 20 minutes. The team ended up running away with a 7-1 victory. Kyle Bosworth was a stand out with a hatrick of goals, while Ben King made his first appearance for the year combining well with the team to score a double.
The team heads into the Easter break 2 points clear of its nearest rival. A big thank you to all those 2nd grade players that have doubled up over the past fortnight. The club has utilised 26 players from the club in first grade this year which shows immense depth in our ranks.Super 2nds got off to a great start through some open attacking play deep in the left hand corner by Brett Gorham which saw the ball come across the circle for Josh Skene convert to take an early 1-0 lead. Their 2nd goal came from a short corner which saw Brett Woods return to the scorers sheet after 6 years away from the game. Unfortunately a 2-0 lead appeared too comfortable and as a result of some cheap turnovers in the mid-field and a late penalty stroke, supers went into halftime trailing 2-3.Shortly after the break a quick free hit by Dean Lawrence inside the attacking 25 found Nat Skliros in the circle who easily converted to tie it up at 3-3. Soon after, an effort by Mark Patterson inside the circle saw him draw the keeper out wide and scoop the ball over his head which resulted in a 4th Goal being awarded only to have it overturned by the trailing umpire. Needless to say Patto “questioned” said umpires decision which found him taking a enforced spell on the sideline. Despite a number of chances on goal late in the 2nd half, the deadlock was unable to be broken (again) and it finished 3-3. Supers sharing the points with Uni this week.A special thanks to Scott Mackenzie, Lucas Motum, Chris Reynolds, Tim Burstal and the Skene Bros. who backed up after playing 3rd Grade earlier that day.3rd Grade had their first win on the weekend, 3-1. The side played really well, the young players stepped up this week with a 70 minute effort across the park. 3rd grade is slowly moulding into a good side with a mixture of youth and experience, the team showed what it is capable of with solid team play. A very good win. 4th Grade Result unknown. No feedback provided.

Another mixed result from the weekend’s games with 2 wins, a draw and a loss.
1st Grade called on the depth of the first grade squad with 7 of the regular 14 out this week. The team started off slowly missing countless opportunities and took a 3-0 lead into the break against Tigers. The 2nd half was a much improved effort with Kyle Bosworth and Sam Mould both getting hatricks in the 10-0 win. It was great to see the younger guys step up and perform well given the gaps we had to fill this week. Next week will be an even bigger test with 10 players unavailable in first grade.
2nd Grade made easy work of Wests with a 4-0 win. The team performed well considering many had played the previous game with 1st Grade. From what I gather Ryan Coulin continues to mark his presence at one left with another goal.
3rd Grade managed to fight out a 2 all draw against Tigers after trailing 1-0 at half time. The team had a short corner on full time to win the game, but it wasn’t to be and they shared the points with Tigers.
4th Grade went down 4-0 to Tigers, however there were some positives. Despite the teams previous record, they got off to a pretty solid start only trailing 1-0 at half time. The scores should have been locked at 1-1 at half time if it hadn’t been for an incorrect decision, reversing a goal that had been scored.
The team opted to push high which caused a flurry of goals for Tigers late in the game.
Jack Lewis made his debut in 4th grade and from all reports did a great job.
Tony Duck has informed me that it’s not the end of the world as Tigers have been the bench mark for 4th grade in the past few years. Tony has indicated that the team will make some positional changes to their personnel in the coming weeks to find the best mix. He said they can’t expect to win a game with 4 goals scored against them.
